VAT and tax compliance

VAT and tax software for Nigerian businesses

Under the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025, staying compliant comes down to four jobs: register with the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), keep records, file your returns and pay what you owe. Zerrar helps with each one, in the same dashboard as your orders and books. No commission on your sales.

Built for businesses that need to stay on the right side of the NRS

How it works

  1. Register

Add your TIN, CAC number and VAT number. No TIN yet? Request registration from inside the dashboard and our accounting team handles it with the NRS.

  2. Keep records

Orders, POS sales and expenses are recorded as you trade, and VAT is tracked on every paid sale.

  3. File

See your monthly VAT figures by channel before the 21st. File it yourself, or ask our accounting team to file for you.

  4. Pay

Pay through the NRS, then record the payment reference in Zerrar so the month shows as remitted.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025 mean for my business?

It sets out how tax is administered: registering with the NRS and getting a TIN, keeping records, filing returns on time and paying what you owe. The rates themselves come from the Nigeria Tax Act 2025. Zerrar helps with the day-to-day side of this, and an accountant should confirm how it applies to you.

Do I need a TIN?

The rules now expect businesses to have one, and you need it to file returns and claim reliefs. If you do not have one, request registration from the File Tax tab. You will need your 11-digit NIN.

Who counts as a small business?

Under the Act, a small business has annual gross turnover below ₦100 million and total fixed assets below ₦250 million, and is not a professional services firm. Speak to an accountant to confirm where your business stands.

Do small businesses still have to file VAT?

Small businesses are exempt from filing monthly VAT returns, and can choose to opt in, charge VAT and file. Being small does not remove the need for a TIN, proper records and annual returns. An accountant can tell you which route suits you.

When is VAT due?

VAT returns are due to the NRS by the 21st of the following month. Zerrar shows the days left for the current month and flags any month that is overdue.

Does Zerrar calculate VAT on my sales?

Yes. Turn VAT on and choose whether it applies to POS sales, your online store or every channel. VAT setup, reports and remittance tracking are available from the Pro plan.

Does Zerrar file my VAT for me?

Zerrar tracks and reports your VAT. You can pay it yourself and record the payment reference, or ask our accounting team to file for you. You will be told about any service fee before work starts.

Can Zerrar register my business with CAC?

Yes. You can request registration of a business name, a private limited company or an NGO. Fill in the form, our team checks it and submits it, and government fees are confirmed before we proceed.

Does it estimate company income tax?

Yes. Add your annual turnover and Zerrar shows a yearly estimate. Company income tax returns are generally due within six months after your accounting year ends, so an early estimate helps you plan. Confirm the final figure with an accountant.

Does Zerrar replace my accountant?

No. Zerrar keeps your records tidy and shows you what is due. For your own tax obligations, speak to a qualified accountant or tax adviser.
