How it works
Run your business as usual
Your sales, expenses and payments are recorded in the ledger as you go, so there is nothing extra to type in at month end.
Pick a date
Choose any date and see your balance sheet as it stood on that day. Change the date to compare.
Read it and export it
Check your assets, liabilities and equity, look at the trial balance behind them, then export to PDF or Excel.
Everything you need to read your balance sheet
Statement of financial position
Your assets, liabilities and equity on one page, as of any date you choose.
What you own
Cash and bank, money customers owe you, inventory, VAT you can reclaim, and fixed assets after depreciation.
What you owe
Money owed to suppliers, VAT payable, loans, PAYE and pension, each on its own line.
What is left for you
Owner capital, owner drawings and retained earnings add up to your total equity.
Totals at a glance
Total assets, total liabilities and total equity sit at the top of the page, so you see the headline before the detail.
Balance check
If assets do not equal liabilities plus equity, Zerrar tells you by how much and points you to the trial balance.
Trial balance
Every account with its code, debit, credit and balance, grouped into assets, liabilities, equity, revenue and expenses.
Debit and credit check
The trial balance flags it when total debits and total credits do not match, so a bad entry does not sit unnoticed.
Export to PDF or Excel
Download your statement of financial position to share with your accountant or keep for your records.
Next to the rest of your books
Profit and loss, expenses, VAT and debts are in the same dashboard, so the numbers agree with each other.
Frequently asked questions
What is a balance sheet?
A snapshot of your business on one date: what it owns, what it owes, and what is left for the owner. Assets equal liabilities plus equity.
What is a statement of financial position?
It is the formal name for a balance sheet. Zerrar uses both terms, and the exported file is titled Statement of Financial Position.
Does Zerrar produce a balance sheet for me?
Yes. It is built from your ledger, so it reflects the sales, expenses and payments already recorded in the dashboard.
Can I see my balance sheet for a past date?
Yes. Pick any date and Zerrar shows the position as of that day.
What is a trial balance, and why is it there?
A trial balance lists every account with its debits, credits and balance. It is how you check that the books add up, and where to look if the balance sheet does not balance.
What happens if my balance sheet does not balance?
Zerrar shows a warning with the difference and points you to the trial balance, where you can look for the entry that caused it.
Can I export it?
Yes, to PDF or Excel.
Do I need a balance sheet for tax?
Businesses are expected to keep proper records to support their returns, including small businesses that pay no company income tax. A balance sheet, with the fixed assets it shows, is part of a tidy set of books. Ask a qualified accountant what you need to file.
Does it replace my accountant?
No. It is a management report that shows where you stand. For audited or statutory accounts, speak to a qualified accountant.
